Spring Street Studio
Monoprinting and mixed media artwork
by Ruth Durose
Welcome,
I am a mixed-media and print artist working from my home studio in Orange, NSW. My creative journey has been shaped by a short time at the College of Fine Art (UNSW), numerous workshops and short courses over the years, my travels throughout Australia and overseas, and a lifelong love of gardens and the Australian Outback and bush.
My work blends acrylic mediums, including regular use of metallic paints and inks, photographic elements, and experimental surface techniques to create vibrant monoprints and layered mixed-media pieces. I’m drawn to colour, texture, and the interplay between natural forms and abstract marks.
In recent years, I’ve been fortunate to share my work through exhibitions, winning the Blaney Shire Aquisitive Art Prize at the Textures of One Exhibition, 2024. I was also a contributing artist in the Here and Now Exhibition at Orange Regional Gallery in 2024. In 2025, I held my first solo exhibition, Layers, at Piesley Street Gallery in Orange — a milestone that brought together my exploration in printmaking and mixed media. My photo media work, Autumn at Lake Canobolas, was highly commended at Spring into Art, Newbridge, 2025, and ‘Over the Fence’, also photo media, won the Packer’s Prize. Most recently, I contributed to the wonderful Light Dance Exhibition at 1000 Words Gallery in Carcoar, and my multi-layered gel print, Autumn on the Tablelands, has been shortlisted for the Cobonne Art Prize Exhibition, 2026.
I deliver popular Gel Printing and Mixed Media workshops throughout the year, and I open my studio to visitors during spring, summer and autumn. Open Studio days give me the opportunity to invite you into my creative space, share my processes, and connect with my local community.
My practice also explores how art can live beyond the wall — appearing on cushions and aprons , and more recently, combining gel prints, image transfers and paper mache art.
I hope you will enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. You can follow me and my art on my Spring Street Studio Facebook and Instagram pages for updates, and, if you are a Central West local or visiting our wonderful region, please get in touch about studio open days or a convenient time to pop into the studio.
