9 August, 2026 Gel Printing Image Transfer Workshop
In this workshop, you’ll create beautiful prints by transferring high contrast photographic images using acrylic paint and a gel plate. Mastering this process opens the door to many creative possibilities that can take your layered gel prints and mixed media work to another level. Some experience using a gel plate is helpful, but not essential.
Transferred images can stand alone as a 2-layered print. You can also embed single or multiple image transfers as part of the layering process of another artwork, or paint into the back of the image transfer to produce a multicoloured print. Images can be transferred onto papers as light as tissue or the heaviest art papers, e.g., 360 gsm art paper, and also onto canvas and wood panels., along with other surfaces. And, while many transfers are made using black paint, they are also very effective when transferred with other colours.
All materials are provided for you, including edited and photocopied images on a range of subjects ready for you to transfer. Morning and afternoon tea will also be provided. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm - I’ve got everything else covered.
The morning will be dedicated to learning how to create prints by transferring high-contrast photocopied images to the gel plate and enhancing those images by applying paint, using stencils, masks and stamps. In the afternoon you will work on individual pieces, creating your take-home artwork by incorporating the techniques covered in the morning.
